"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." --Acts 1:8
Missions is more than just a one-time event or an experience. Missions is a lifestyle. This means that in our homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and in every other area of our lives, we are to carry ourselves as ministers of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18-20 & 1 Peter 2:4-9). The goal of a minister of reconciliation is to restore man and creation to a right relationship with the Lord. The primary way we serve our city is through each of our members engaging all areas of their lives with purpose and intentionality as God has called them. We believe it is important for each individual to ask the Father, “What do You desire for me to do, and where do You desire for me to go?”
Secondly, the Church as a whole has been called to seek the good of the city (Jeremiah 29:5-8). We seek the welfare of the city by focusing our corporate missions efforts on improving the health, safety, education and commercial opportunities available within the city. Whether it be through tutoring a child, which focuses on education, or our money management through our Financial Peace University, which focuses on stewardship of financial resources, each of our ministries and events are designed to strengthen these pillars of society.
Philosophy of Missions
The Missions Team exists to fulfill the mission of Life’s Journey by engaging, equipping and sending the church body to be ministers of reconciliation into the world. We believe that God created the Church as the primary instrument of this mission.
Our primary focus is to engage and equip people for their personal mission of being ministers of reconciliation in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, work places and every other area of their lives. Our second focus is to lead our members in our corporate mission of developing the Church throughout our city, nation and world that she might be a blessing to whatever city she is in. Since this task is too large for any single group of believers, we partner with the universal body of Christ by engaging and interacting with believers, churches and organizations outside of Life’s Journey at varying levels.
To achieve what the Lord has called us to, we have an integrated approach to missions where ocal missions, international missions and church planting have joined together with the same vision and mission into one Missions Team. This allows us to have a comprehensive approach to missions so that we can engage, equip and send the Church into neighborhoods and cities near and around the world.
Our hope is to engage and equip the Church universally to be who she was created to be. We call this church development, and it drives what we do as the Missions Team. We do this by being champions of missional living.
The Missions Team’s primary driver is church development. According to 1 Cor. 3:6-10, the one who plants and the one who waters are the same; they are "fellow workers." Therefore, church development is more than just the initial seed planting. It is also the watering of the seeds to grow. What this means for Life’s Journey is that church development is both new endeavors for the Gospel and watering seeds already planted. Thus, the Missions Team will:
- Plant new churches
- Revitalize struggling churches
- Partner with existing churches and organizations to restore that which is fractured
All of this we encompass in the term "church development." We understand that there will be times when we lay the foundation and others build upon it and that there will be times when we will build upon other's foundations.
Who We Serve
The Missions Team focuses on transformation in order to move the church outside our walls into the community and around the world to push back the darkness by engaging the community in a purposeful and powerful way. The Church has been transformed by Christ through a relationship, and we desire to transform communities with a focus on three goals:
- Building relationships // Each individual is called by God by name to walk with Him in community. Each project or opportunity is seen as a starting point to build relationships.
- Focusing on education // The heart of any community is their education. We focus on improving school facilities as a catalyst to building relationships with school administrators, teachers and students. This ministry should move participants into mentoring and befriending adults as well as students.
- Serving within the community // We are Kingdom focused to invite the community as well as other churches to join us as we strive to restore and push back that which has been fractured. We have dreams of thousands to participate for the glory of God and His renown.
