Our History

Life's Journey Church was born on January 28, 2007. The church body at the time was a core group of 35 God-fearing individuals. They decided to begin the church without waiting for more people because the hand of the Lord was moving within their hearts and the community. As word was leaking out about a new church in the area, the Southeast YMCA approached Life's Journey and offered their building as a possible launch site. The church held its first service at the YMCA that January.

The response was much greater than the core group had anticipated. They figured they would meet in a classroom at the YMCA for several months, but the number of attendees the first week was already too many for that. They moved into the gym at the YMCA the next week and stayed in that gym until November of 2013, when God granted them use of the Covenant Center. Life's Journey now shares that building with Covenant Christian Academy.

Growth has sometimes been slow, but it is steady. Leadership is the key. We know it is Christ who completes His body, and it is the Father Who builds His church. We are intentional to equip others in order to be leaders. The church is called to make disciples. We follow two passages in this:

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Ephesians 4:11-14

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
